Cagliari is the main city of Sardinia, the capital, and one of the most visited places on the island. It offers an endless number of options for accommodations, tours, daily trips outside the center, and the most different activities.

Of course, the same goes for the food: you will never have to worry about what to eat in Cagliari, because there are plenty of authentic, locally run restaurants of any kind, to suit every traveler’s taste and budget, from ethnic food to simple but delicious sandwiches. Having said that, I should however point out that there aren’t many strictly vegan restaurants in Cagliari.

However, many of the local restaurants and even some of the best pizzerie will have an excellent array of vegan options that you can enjoy. So, if you follow a vegan lifestyle, or are traveling with someone who is, or simply want to eat something different, you will be happy to find that there are quite a few choices in town. The existing vegan restaurants in Cagliari remain as authentic as possible – they are small local businesses that use locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, and that both locals and tourists enjoy.

Even though I am actually not vegan, I do enjoy vegan food every now and then. So, I have tried each and every restaurant in this post and can attest to their quality of food and service.

Cavò Bistrot

Cavò Bistrot is considered one of the best vegan restaurants in Cagliari. Its food concept is original and based on organic, healthy food farmed in the vicinity; both their dishes and their cocktails are vegan and prepared with extra care to ingredients and appearance: they are not only delicious but also instagrammable!

The restaurant is located in Stampace, one of the hotspots for Cagliari’s nightlife – so you may want to make reservations before you go.

Little Star

Little Star is a Jordan restaurant that serves excellent dishes of Middle Eastern tradition, most of them vegan or vegetarian, and some original pizzas as well. Their hummus is the best hummus in Cagliari – and trust me, I know my hummus after having traveled widely around the Middle East. I discovered it through a friend who’s a regular, and have been going since.

Every person who has been there only had positive things to say about the place. The food is delicious, the staff is very nice and professional, and the prices are fair.

Little Star is in Via Enrico Lai, 52, 09128 Cagliari CA. It’s open Monday to Saturday (closed on Sundays).

La Locanda dei Buoni e dei Cattivi

If you are looking for a nice place a little away from the chaos of Cagliari city center, yet in a central location, Locanda dei Buoni e Cattivi is the right choice. The restaurant is part of a non-profit project and takes part in several charity programs, so that’s another 10 points for them!

The menu is not exclusively vegan but there are a few options, such as the chickpea hamburger. All the ingredients come from local farms and stores, in order to make regional product the main focus of the restaurant.

La Locanda dei Buoni e dei Cattivi is Via Vittorio Veneto, 96, 09123 Cagliari CA. They are open Monday to Sunday, and they only close on Sunday evenings (so you can still have your Sunday lunch there!). Prices range between €15 and €45.

best pizza in Cagliari

Framento Pizzeria

Framento has a few vegan pizza options as well, and a delicious vegan dessert (carapigna – a traditional Sardinian style ice cream made with water, sugar and lemon). Like the other places in this selection, they put great emphasis and effort into using locally and organically farmed ingredients, and into their pizza-making process that still follows the old traditions.

I am a regular there – together with my sister and my friends. Mention my name – Claudia the blogger – and you’ll get special treatment!

Framento is in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 82, 09123 Cagliari CA. They open everyday except Sunday mornings (no lunch). Prices range between €12 and €25. Dogs are welcome.

Levante Pizzeria

Pizzeria Levante is another advocate for local, organic ingredients cooked with extra care. They offer a huge variety of pizzas, several vegetarian options, and two vegan ones. If you are a fan of beer, they also have their own brand (Rubiu), and it isn’t half-bad! I last visited a few nights ago with my best friend and as usual, I loved my pizza and the service was spot on!

Levante Pizzeria is in Via Ottone Bacaredda, 101, 09127 Cagliari CA. The pizzeria is closed on Mondays. The two vegan pizzas are €13 and €13.50 euros, which is a fair price.

Coccodi il Dolce e il Salato

Coccodi is a gem for locals and tourists in Cagliari. It’s a bakery but it offers several options, including takeaway meals. A lot of people appreciate their variety of food and the fact that you can have a great meal at any time of the day.

Of course, the cakes and breakfast menu is their biggest charm (even more so thanks to the many lactose free and vegan options), but many office workers love to drop by and grab a bite during their lunch break or after work is over. There are several vegan options for each meal and the prices are all very affordable.

Coccodi is located in Via Santa Margherita, 9, 09124 Cagliari CA. It is open every day except Mondays.

Cerchio Rosso

This restaurant is another place offering dishes that are both delicious and instagrammable. Despite being a bit pricey (dishes start at €20 each), the location and the atmosphere are great and make for a good experience overall, especially after a long day of exploring the city. The menu is mainly seafood-based, and the restaurant is in a nice corner of a square.

There are numerous vegetarian options and a few vegan ones, all widely appreciated by vegan travelers. It’s definitely worth trying.

Cerchio Rosso is located in Via S. Domenico, 75, 09127 Cagliari CA. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday for lunch. It’s closed on Mondays.

Therefore, you will find a decent selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes alongside gluten-free and more traditional foods. B-Liv

B-liv is one of the hot spots for brunch in Cagliari. Located in the big Piazza del Carmine, it is easy to find and easy to love. They have a good selection of food to suit every taste and their menu is the ideal solution for all the ones who don’t have too much time or simply want to have a light meal instead of a full-course one. Their desserts are especially good – and the fact that they are vegan makes it all the better!

Gintilla

Gintilla is a full vegetarian/vegan restaurant and offers a good amount of choices on its menu. You will find pinsa (a Rome-style pizza); as well as hummus and falafel (though they aren’t nearly as good as the ones at Little Star). Several customers have complained about the small portions, but aside from that, it’s a nice place to have a meal if you want to opt for a place that is catering to your vegan lifestyle. There are also plenty of gluten free options.

Gintilla is in Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 210, 09123 Cagliari CA. It’s open everyday. Dogs are welcome.
