There are many good Cala Gonone hotels, so if you have picked this as your holiday destination in Sardinia, you will have no trouble finding a good place to stay.
Cala Gonone, Dorgali’s marine hamlet, is one of the gems of Eastern Sardinia, and among the most beautiful places in the Gulf of Orosei. From the tiny town, you can access an incredible amount of beautifully isolated beaches with pristine sand and turquoise waters.
But there is so much more to Cala Gonone than a few hundred meters of beach. Cala Gonone isn’t only the starting point for the cruises and boat trips that go through the Gulf of Orosei. It’s also a good starting point for several hikes, like the one going to Cala Luna.
Yet, the most famous attraction in Cala Gonone, the one you can’t really miss, is the Bue Marino cave complex (known as the Sea Oxen Grotto in English): a unique cave system where, until not too long ago, the rare monk seals used to live.
I have lost count of how many times I have been to Cala Gonone in recent years. It’s one of my favorite areas in Sardinia and I never tire of visiting, since there is so much to explore!
With all the incredible places to visit at a short distance from Cala Gonone, you may well base yourself there to explore the area rather than rely on day trips – after all, the town is rather isolated and the only access point is a very windy road from Dorgali. So, once you get there, you may as well stay!
You will need a good place to stay and rest. Since I visit often, I have tried many Cala Gonone hotels and thought I’d put together my selection of the best hotels in Cala Gonone.
The Best Cala Gonone Hotels
Villa Gustui Maris
The hotel is located in an excellent, panoramic position, overlooking the sea and the mountains and at only a few hundred meters from the beaches.
It’s also barely 600 meters (0.4 miles) away from the center of town so you will have easy access to all the best restaurants, gelaterie, bars and anything else you may need.
At Villa Gustui Maris you will also be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi, a swimming pool (in case you ever get tired of the incredible beaches), a restaurant on-site, and an airport shuttle service in case you decide not to rent a car for your trip to Sardinia. It’s overall one of the best hotels in Cala Gonone.
Palmasera Bed and Breakfast
Located about 300 meters (less than 0.2 miles) from the homonymous beach, the property offers free WiFi, private bathrooms in every room, free parking (especially helpful if you are driving), and delicious breakfasts every day.
The Bed and Breakfast is pet-friendly, so a good place to stay if you are bringing your furry friend on holidays too. All rooms are large and comfortable so they make for a wonderful, relaxing stay for your Sardinia holiday.
Hotel Brancamaria
This hotel has undergone some recent renovations and now offers both rooms overlooking the sea and rooms overlooking their private swimming pool – so no matter where you stay you will have a relaxing view to wake up to.
Personally, I would not have doubt which view to pick to be honest!
The hotel also has a restaurant on-site, in case you don’t feel like going out for a meal after having spent all day exploring.
You can also count with free parking, which is very convenient when you are bringing your car (or renting one on the island) and free Wi-Fi, and some rooms even have a jacuzzi, in case you need to relax even more after a full day at the beach. All in all, it is an excellent deal!
Agriturismo Codula Fuili
Located above the Codula Fuili Canyon, this agriturismo gives breathtaking views from every side you look at. You will be overlooking both the incredible waters of the Gulf of Orosei and the mysterious Barbagia forests, in an incredible location.
Like in any good agriturismo, you will find a restaurant on-site focusing on traditional Sardinian dishes. You will also have free Wi-Fi, and free parking.
The only downside of staying at this place is the fact that it’s a bit isolated, so if you decide to go out for a meal you’ll have to drive along a narrow dirt road to get to the village. If you are used to driving, that’s definitely not an issue though. In fact, isolation may be the main drawing point for you!
Hotel Caramare
Located at walking distance from Spiaggia Centrale, Hotel Caramare offers rooms with every comfort – and more.
From free WiFi to private balconies where you can sit to sip your morning coffee or enjoy a sunset drink, there really is anything you might dream of.
To start your day, you will be able to enjoy a fabulous breakfast in the common area of the hotel.
The property is pet-friendly and also very close to the town center, so you can walk anywhere whether you want to go for a meal or hop on a cruise along the Gulf of Orosei. It’s no wonder it’s thought to be one of the best hotels in Cala Gonone.
Bue Marino
Another property at walking distance from the beach, Bue Marino Hotel offers a panoramic terrace with a restaurant and free WiFi.
If you don’t feel like renting a car for your trip to Sardinia, you can count on an affordable airport shuttle service that you can require once you book the room.
Rooms are particularly comfortable and spacious, perfect to make you feel at home during your holiday. The hotel is also pet-friendly in case you want to bring your dog with you, and you will appreciate being equally close to the beaches and the town center.
Hotel Turismo Rurale Villa Maria Caterina
Immersed in nature and the ideal place for hiking lovers, this agriturismo offers great views and comfort.
You will have access to free parking since you will be staying in a rural area, free WiFi you will be able to bring your pet with you.
In the morning, fill up on the delicious continental breakfast – focused on local products.
The hotel is at a perfect location between the beautiful beaches and the mountains – to give you the best of everything. It’s a bit isolated so perhaps not the ideal place to stay if you want to be walking distance from the beaches and restaurants of Cala Gonone, but other than that it’s an incredible location.
La Casa del Pescatore
I came to know this hotel after having eaten at the fabulous restaurant a bunch of times when visiting the area. Let me tell you, this is easily the most famous restaurant in Cala Gonone if you enjoy the freshest seafood and fish dishes.
La Casa del Pescatore is one of the nicest hotels in Cala Gonone. It’s located in the heart of town, close to the harbor so you will be minutes away from the many boats that every day take passengers to the gorgeous beaches.
All rooms have views of the port, and there is a small private beach available for guests too.
There’s a terrace perfect for a sunset drink, and an airport shuttle service in case you prefer not driving (unfortunately there’s no parking on the premises).
Rooms are modern and spacious – there even are family rooms in case you are traveling with children.
Agriturismo Su Barcu
Located slightly further from the beaches compared to the other properties, Agriturismo Su Barcu is the ideal place if you who want to adventure in the Ogliastra mountains and discover their secrets and most ancient corners.
The rooms all offer a view of the spectacular nature – either the sea or the property’s vineyards – and have free WiFi. You can bring your pet there, and park your car for free as there is lots of space.
The breakfast is notoriously delicious. In case you want to try Sardinian pastries and sweets, this is your chance!
Pranos Turismo Rurale
This lovely Cala Gonone hotel is an excellent choice if you wish to have a cozy and comfortable place with all amenities in a fabulous location.
The hotel is actually located outside the center – immersed in nature so it’s a bit of a drive to get there. It’s perfect if you need tranquillity during your Sardinia holiday.
Rooms are modern and spacious. There is a nice pool where you can hang out during the day and in the evening too – perhaps with a drink from the on-site bar.
Guest will also enjoy free WiFi and the large parking space (you will need a car to get there). Room service is available.
Finally, the hotel also caters to disabled travelers.
La Playa
Last but definitely not least in this selection of the best hotels in Cala Gonone is Hotel La Playa.
Featuring a swimming pool, a garden, and many other comforts, Hotel la Playa is extremely close to Cala Gonone’s main beach and town center.
Free WiFi is available in public areas (this is your chance to completely unwind once you are in your room!) and all rooms have private bathrooms with free toiletries.
Hotel La Playa will allow you to bring your own pet on vacation and in case you don’t feel like driving you can count on an airport shuttle bus service – that you have to book in advance.

I’ll be staying at an airbnb in Cala Gonone, so I’ve been enjoying your posts about the different hikes and beaches in the area. I’ve always wanted to see the Mediterranean and this trip has been postponed a couple times due to Covid, so I’m definitely very excited.
