How To Get From Barcelona To Sardinia
Barcelona to Sardinia flights
Barcelona has two main airports: Barcelona – El Prat (BCN), and Girona – Costa Brava. Unfortunately, only one of them offers direct flights from Barcelona to Sardinia.
Direct flights from Barcelona to Sardinia are mostly available during summer, since this is the time of the year during which the majority of people decide to travel to Sardinia. Thus, it is easier to find routs to get from Barcelona to Sardinia between May and October.
You are probably wondering: what is the Barcelona to Sardinia flight time? It varies, actually – it depends on which airport you will be landing in Sardinia.
What airlines fly from Barcelona to Sardinia?
Various airlines operate direct flights to Sardinia from Barcelona:
- Vueling operates flights from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to Cagliari
- Volotea operates flights from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to Cagliari
- Ryanair operates flights from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to Alghero
- Vueling operates flights from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN) to Olbia
How much is a flight from Barcelona to Sardinia?
The price of a flight from Barcelona to Sardinia can vary a lot depending on the season in which you want to travel, with flights being significantly more expensive in the summer months.
Additional perks such as priority boarding, selected seats, checked baggage or hand luggage (other than a small personal item) will also bring the price of a flight from Barcelona to Sardinia up.
To save a bit, you can opt to travel in the off season. But in general, my recommendation is to plan well ahead of your trip to land a good deal.
I recommend using Omio to check out the schedule and book your flights from Barcelona to Sardinia.

Flights from Barcelona El Prat to Cagliari
Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) is the best connected airport to Barcelona, and this is your best choice for a Barcelona to Sardinia flight. Flights from Barcelona to Cagliari last about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Low-cost company airlines Vueling and Volotea operate direct flights from Barcelona (BCN) to Cagliari.
Vueling runs four to five flights per week in the off season, and then from the end of June to mid September there are daily flights.
The schedule changes frequently, so I suggest you to check the schedule online on Vueling website to find the flight that most suits you for the week you want to travel.
Vueling, which operates the Barcelona to Cagliari flights, works in code sharing with Spanish company Iberia so you may buy your tickets on both sites – however, tickets sold on Iberia are significantly more expensive.
Flights from Barcelona El Prat (BCN) to Cagliari are also operated by low-cost carrier Volotea. In this case, you can count on three flights per week (on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays). At the time of writing flights from Barcelona to Cagliari operated by Volotea are only available in the summer months.
I recommend using Omio to check out the schedule and book your Barcelona to Sardinia flights.
My post How To Get To Cagliari From The Airport shows all the options to travel between the airport and the city.

Flights from Barcelona El Prat to Olbia
The flight from Barcelona El Prat – to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) lasts about 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Olbia is connected to Barcelona only during the summer months – from mid June to mid September – with flights operated by low cost airline Vueling. Direct flights are available every day.
You can buy Vueling flights from Barcelona to Olbia on the website of Iberia too, even if Vueling is the only company that operates these flights.
Low cost carrier Volotea also operates regular direct flights from Barcelona El Prat (BCN) to Olbia. These are available four times a week from mid June to mid September, and twice a week the rest of the year.
I recommend using Omio to check out the schedule and book your Barcelona to Sardinia flights.
My post How To Get To Olbia From The Airport explains how to get from Olbia and further to Gallura from the airport.

Flights from Barcelona El Prat to Alghero
At the time of writing, direct flights from Barcelona El Prat to Alghero Fertilia Airport (AHO) are operated by low-cost carrier Ryanair. You can count on five weekly flights. The schedule changes regularly depending on the day of the week and the month, so for the exact departure time you should consult the website of Ryanair.
You can also use Omio to check out the schedule and book your Barcelona to Alghero flights.
Make sure to read my post How To Get To Alghero From The Airport for all the options on how to travel between the airport and the city.
Girona – Costa Brava to Sardinia Flights
There used to be regular direct flights from Girona (GRO) to Alghero and Cagliari airports operated by low cost airline Ryanair, but at the time of writing, there are none. I suggest you keep an eye on Ryanair website in case new direct flights are activated.
Otherwise, in order to reach Sardinian from Girona, you would have to find convenient connections via another airport – you’ll need at least two and at times even three flights in order to get here. If that’s the case, your trip could last from a minimum of 9 hours to a maximum of 25 hours!
The best thing you could do if you are in Girona and want to reach Sardinia, would be to reach the airport of El Prat and leave from there. It’ll definitely be less tiring than a 9 hours + journey!

Barcelona to Sardinia ferry
Taking a ferry from Barcelona to Sardinia could seem more exhausting than taking a plane, but it has some positive sides. First, you can travel with your own car or motorbike, instead of renting one or having to deal with the public transportation in Sardinia, which is all but efficient.
Secondly, if you want to spend some time on the island and bring your pets with you, then taking a ferry is the safest and more convenient way for them to travel.
Indeed, while regular airlines will allow you to take pets on board, low-cost airlines won’t. And no regular airline operates direct flights from Barcelona to Sardinia – you’d have to go via Rome Fiumicino or Milano Linate.
The only available Barcelona to Sardinia ferries go to Porto Torres, on the northwest of the island, and are operated by Grimaldi Lines. There is one and at times two ferries per week during the low season, throughout the year.
Ferries usually depart at midnight from Barcelona and arrive in Porto Torres at 1:45 pm. Thus, the journey lasts approximately 14 hours.
The bright side is that you could sleep all night and relax for the rest of the day, but if you are prone to sea sickness this may be a nightmare!
I recommend using Direct Ferries to check out the schedule and book your Barcelona to Sardinia ferry.

How much does the ferry from Barcelona to Sardinia cost?
Much like for flights, the longer you wait to book your ferry to Sardinia from Barcelona, the more expensive it will be. Things such as traveling with your car will also increase the price of a ferry ticket.
If you know your travel dates, try to book as far in advance as possible to find a good deal.
I recommend using Direct Ferries to check out the schedule and book your Barcelona to Sardinia ferry.
