13 Best Chia Hotels

This post may contain affiliate links. Further info in my disclosure.

There are many excellent Chia hotels – whatever your travel needs, whatever your budget, you will find something suitable.

Chia is the marine hamlet of Domus de Maria, a small town located in the south-western part of Sardinia, approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Cagliari, the capital city.

Its territory is famous for the rocky slopes of the mountains of Sulcis and the salt ponds where pink flamingos live. There are Nuragic settlements and the ruins of Bithia, a Punic-Phoenician town. And the area has some of the best coastal trails of South Sardinia – such as the ancient Roman Road.

But, most of all, Chia has beaches with crystal-clear waters which turned it into one of the most popular summer holiday destinations in Sardinia and awarded Sa Colonia, one of its beaches, among the 40 best beaches in Europe. But there are many more beaches in Chia that are worth visiting – among them Su Giudeu and Cala Cipolla.

Since Chia is so close to Cagliari, where I live, I visit on a regular basis on day trips and even on weekend trips to enjoy the beaches and the hiking trails. And whenever I spend the night, I try a different hotel just for fun.

If you want to spend at least part of your summer holidays in Chia, and don’t know where to stay, you are in good hands. Here is my selection of the best Chia hotels for a wonderful stay in the area.

Faro Capo Spartivento is one of my favorite Chia hotels

Faro Capo Spartivento Hotel

If you have the budget to splurge, stop right here. This is one of the most exclusive Chia hotels. I visited for the first time just a year ago and it was a fantastic experience.

Faro Capo Spartivento is set in an old lighthouse, built in the middle of 19th century by the Italian Navy. This was one of the many lighthouses that the Italian king Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia asked to build.

It was damaged during WWII, and when the war was over, the lighthouse underwent its only restoration.

Nowadays, it is a unique 5-star hotel renowned for its position – it is literally on a cliff overlooking the sea – and the services it offers.

Hotel Faro di Capo Spartivento is few hundred meters from the beautiful Cala Cipolla Beach (in fact, you can see it from there), and less than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from Su Giudeu Beach and other marvelous beaches in the area.

Among the several services provided by the hotel there are free Wi-Fi, free public parking (though you need a car with a higher engine as the road to get there is not paved), a beach shuttle and an outdoor infinity pool.

For an extra charge you can enjoy dinner in the hotel restaurant, either inside or in the beautiful terrace, as well as drinks from the bar. There is also an airport shuttle service and a baby-sitting service. In fact, the accommodation is family friendly, and pet friendly too.

Mind you, this is not a cheap place to stay – but it’s totally worth every cent!

I have written a dedicated post to Hotel Faro Capo Spartivento where you can read more about this fabulous hotel.

Aquadulci Hotel

If you want a hotel with a pool at a reasonable price, this is one of the best places to stay in Chia. The accommodation is indeed surrounded by a large green garden, where you can find a big pool to relax and sunbathe if you don’t want to go to the beach.

  1. Claudia,

As a fellow Travel advisor and Italian – American historian I must say that I am very impressed by the wealth of information contained on your website. I will be in Sardinia in early June and the ideas and information on your site are incredibly helpful in my planning process.

BTW all of my grand parents are from Sicily so I am 100% Sicilian and love traveling to Italy and helping other discover some of the less traveled roads in your beautiful country.

    Thank you,
