Finding good and authentic La Maddalena restaurants is easy with this quick guide (even when the choice is somewhat limited).
If I am honest, La Maddalena lacks stellar restaurants. Whether you spend a week in La Maddalena or just a couple of days, you should make the most of everything that it has to offer, which by all means also includes food-

And since Trattoria Dal Genovese has been going strong since 1973, you can trust that the cuisine on offer is going to be more than just a solution to your hunger. This is one of the most popular La Maddalena Restaurants for sure!
There’s an outdoor terrace, so you can sit street-side and watch the world go by.

You will have a good choice of wine, and the service is quick and friendly.
Puffer Fish has both indoor and outdoor seating. It is close to the harbor or La Maddalena. It opens for both lunch and dinner. They don’t take reservations, but service is quick, and you won’t have issues getting a table.

The food, comprising local Sardinian dishes, is utterly delicious. Everything’s fresh and well-made. The porchetto (Sardinian suckling pig), in particular, is exquisite.
You can opt to eat either in the grassy garden or the large, rustic terrace. Either way, it’s a fantastic way to get to know Sardinian tradition – through its food, of course.

Which is why this is one of the most popular La Maddalena restaurants.

I Capatosta is one of La Maddalena’s favorite pizza restaurants and a casual, lively stop for dinner not far from the historic center. It’s popular with both locals and tourists for its wood-fired pizzas — from classic Margherita and traditional combinations to more inventive, gourmet options with quality toppings and a light, digestible crust.
The vibe is informal yet friendly, with seating inside and outside — great for warm evenings when you want to eat a delicious pizza and sip a local beer. Non-pizza dishes aren’t anything to write home about, but pizza quality is great, with fresh ingredients and friendly service.
Service can feel a bit busy at peak times. Prices are in line with the island’s overall range, especially given the central location and quality.

The staff here is always happy to recommend both familiar and lesser-known bottles from small island producers and beyond.
The atmosphere is casual and warm, with seating inside and on a small outdoor terrace on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, making it a solid choice for aperitivo or an early evening stop before dinner.
Vineria Ninì is located in Via Vittorio Emanuele, in the heart of La Maddalena Town.

Portions are extremely generous, and the service is attentive.
It’s a great place for dinner if you want to get out of town – it’s also often used for special events like weddings and other kinds of celebrations.

Zi Antò
- Best for: A meal with a view.
- What to order: Anything seafood.
- Price: €
- Booking: For dinner, yes.
- Good to know: It’s a bit touristy.
A stunning if rather simple spot for lunch or dinner by the sea, Zi Antò has to be one of the most beautiful La Maddalena restaurants. This is a family-run enterprise with a very friendly owner.
My friends and I decided to stop there for dinner once, after enjoying a glorious sunset at the nearby cocktail spot. It didn’t hurt that it’s also within walking distance from the hotel where we always stay in La Maddalena.
The specialty is seafood, which is super fresh. The quality is good, but overall it’s more of a casual spot with good views, fair prices, and even fair food.
I highly recommend you stay for the sunset – it’s one of the best sunset spots in Sardinia.

Ristorante Caprera

We loved Ristorante Caprera for its great balance of fresh seafood and classic Sardinian-Italian cuisine. Birreria Pizzeria Mezzo Passo

- Good to know: There’s indoor and outdoor seating.
If you feel like sampling some great beer, you should make a beeline to Birreria Mezzo Passo. There’s a great draft beer selection, which is paired perfectly with the mouthwatering pizza on offer here.
The owner is from Naples originally, so this great pizzeria has that same sort of flavor and vibe.
Note that it does get busy, so you may have to join the line that sometimes forms outside before you get a table. There’s outdoor seating in the piazza, while the cellar-esque interior has bar seating and small tables tucked into corners.
Situated in Maddalena town, you’ll find Birreria Mezzo Passo on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. It’s open daily for dinner.
Meet Pub
- Best for: Burgers and grilled meats.
- What to order: A burger.
- Price: €€

- Good to know: It’s great value for money.
Meet Pub is a lively, casual spot in central La Maddalena where you will find delicious panini, burgers, grilled meats and sharable snacks, served with friendly table service.
The menu mixes Italian and international comfort food, including well-crafted hamburgers, sandwiches with creative toppings, and sides like house-cut fries. It’s also very budget-friendly, which is not unwelcome in a rather expensive place like La Maddalena.
In terms of drinks, you will find anything from wine, to local beer and great cocktails. It’s a nice place for a meal if you need a break from the classic seafood and pasta you typically find in La Maddalena.
Meet Pub is located in Via Enrico Dandolo. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner. Indoor and outdoor seatings are both available.

Taverna Barò
- Best for: Pub-style atmosphere.
- What to order: Charcuterie board.
- Price: €
- Booking: Not needed but go early
- Good to know: They have vegan and vegetarian options.
For pub-style ambience, head to this contemporary taverna. Though it may look modern and stylish inside, with newly decked out interiors of stone and wood, don’t be fooled; you’ll still find quintessential Sardinian friendliness and hospitality here.
You can choose to stand or sit inside, at the bar, or outside – either in the porch or on the terrace overlooking the sea.
They don’t serve up huge meals here. Instead, expect lots of good local wine or well-poured craft beer paired with bites such as sandwiches, meat platters, and Sardinian cheeses.
Situated on Piazza des Geneys, overlooking Cala Gavetta, Taverna Barò is open every day, making it a good option for a late-night spot.
I Vitelloni La Maddalena
- Best for: Easygoing atmosphere, live music.
- What to order: Bruschetta or a charcuterie board.
- Price: €
- Booking: Not necessary, but go early.
- Good to know: Perfect place if you want to share some snacks or aperitifs.
A great place to grab a drink or two before heading out to dinner, this easygoing bar has a low-key, local atmosphere to match. The interior, with its cosy decor, heightens that mood even more.
Hosting curious tourists and local regulars, there’s always music playing here too, either in the form of classic R&B over the speakers, or some live music to add a lively ambience. We ended up going there for drinks one night, before heading for dinner, because we were attracted by the music.
Drinks prices here are budget-friendly, and the selection of bar snacks and platters available also comes at affordable prices.
I Vitelloni La Maddalena is situated at Piazza S Maria Maddalena. If it sounds like a good spot to you, you’ll be pleased to know it’s open every day, throughout the day.

Where To Eat In Caprera
Restaurant options in Caprera are a bit more limited and reflect the fact that very few people live on the island on a permanent basis. There are a few casual kiosks that save food for lunch and easy aperitifs, ideal after a day at the beach or before/after hiking. Here are my top picks.
I Mille Bar Paninoteca
- Best for: A quick lunch.
- What to order: A panino.
- Price: €
- Booking: Not necessary.
- Good to know: There’s plenty of natural shade.
For a great lunch spot on Caprera Island, you should definitely swing by I Mille Bar Paninoteca. There are hammocks, it’s shaded by trees, but the main event is its panini – cheap and tasty panini.
Whether you opt for a glass of wine and some fried potatoes or if you just want to wolf down a burger, the natural setting in the trees is bound to help this be a relaxing moment between a hike and time at the beach. This is one of the best budget restaurants in La Maddalena archipelago.
This Caprera eatery is situated alongside the Compendio Garibaldino, so you’ll be bound to come across it if you’re exploring the island by car. It’s open every day from 12:00 to 8:00 pm, and there’s free parking.

Chiosco Arbuticci
- Best for: A drink and a snack after a hike.
- What to order: A gourmet sandwich.
- Price: €-€€
- Booking: Not necessary.
- Good to know: They have quire a few good dishes if you want something more elaborate.
The most recent addition to the choice of nice kiosks in Caprera Island, you will find Chiosco Arbuticci at the very end of the street and by the parking lot from where the trails to Fortificazione Candeo, Cala Napoletana and (further down the road) Cala Coticcio are located.
Chiosco Arbuticci serves a variety of gourmet sandwiches and smaller bites – think burrata cheese, thinly sliced mortadella, and other mouthwatering ingredients. They have a nice selection of drinks, including local beers and wines, and snacks. It’s a nice spot to grab a bite or a drink after coming back from one of the hikes nearby.
Open during the tourist season from May to October, this kiosk is open from early in the morning till evening and serves breakfast, lunch, aperitif and small bites as well as dinner.
Chiosco Garibaldi
- Best for: Quick lunch before yet another hike.
- What to order: Panini or salads.
- Price: €
- Booking: Not necessary.
- Good to know: There’s a great shaded area.
This unpretentious kiosk is located under the pine forest in Caprera Island and is the perfect lunch spot when you are moving from one beach to another in Caprera. We tried it for the first time last year and have been going back since (and two days on a row, actually).
They make a variety of dishes, but our favorites are their sandwiches, which have several toppings. Service is super friendly too.
You will find Chiosco Garibaldi on the main road in Caprera Island, on the way to Cala Portese and Cala del Relitto. Hours aren’t posted, but it’ll usually be open for breakfast, lunch, and aperitif during the summer months (May to October).

How To Plan Your Meals In La Maddalena
If you are staying in La Maddalena for several nights (i.e., 2 to 7 nights), you are probably curious to know how you should plan your meals. Here are my top tips, based on my experience of visiting several times:
- Boat days: You will likely have lunch on the boat. Boat tours of La Maddalena Archipelago are usually back by 6:00 pm at the latest. Have an early dinner, around 7:30 pm.
- Windy days: town restaurants are a more comfortable lunch option than Caprera; otherwise, in Caprera, it’s best to have lunch at one of the inland kiosks.
- Peak season reality: during the summer months, and especially in July and August, reservations matter even for pizza; however, some pizza places don’t take reservations at all: go early.
- Shoulder season: most kiosks in Caprera close by the end of September.

FAQs on Maddalena Restaurants
Yes. Having reservations is always better if you are visiting La Maddalena in peak season. However, keep in mind that some restaurants (typically more casual ones) don’t take reservations.
Zi Anto and Puffer Fish are both excellent. I am more of a fan of Puffer Fish.
By far, Civico 49. They don’t take reservations, but the service is quick, so you’ll never wait too long.
Civico 49 and I Capatosta both have a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian options. You could also try Meet Pub and Zi Anto: most of the time, they do have some vegan dishes on the menu.
We enjoyed eating at Chiosco Arbuticci after we hiked to Cala Napoletana, Cala Brigantina, and Cala Coticcio. It’s conveniently located by the parking lot where you’ll find the trailhead, and serves both very simple snacks and more refined dishes.
Final Considerations
La Maddalena is small, but the food scene is more varied than it first appears. If you’re staying a few nights, the key is balance. Mix one or two seafood-focused dinners with simpler meals like pizza, wine bars, or casual pubs – that’s what my friends and I always do when we visit – and plan at least one dinner outside the historic center.
Location matters. La Maddalena restaurants in town are easy to reach on foot and work best for evenings, while places outside the center — and in Caprera — are better tied to beach days, hikes, or sunset stops and usually require a car.
In high season, reservations are strongly recommended for dinner, even mid-week, while lunch is generally more flexible.
Menus often change based on availability, especially for fish, so it’s worth asking what’s fresh rather than ordering automatically. Prices are in line with those of other tourist destinations in Sardinia, with quality varying more by day and timing than by reputation alone.
As I said at the beginning of this post, there are no spectacular restaurants in La Maddalena in my opinion, nothing that is particularly memorable (though my friends will argue that Puffer Fish is), but if you know where to go, you can still eat really well.
