Are you looking for the best cooking classes in Sardinia? Want to join a Sardinia food tour? You are in the right place. I am a massive fan of food tours (I am what you’d call a real foodie) and cooking classes (by the way, have you seen my traditional recipes for Sardinian food?). I take them wherever I go, including here in Sardinia, which, as you know, is my home.
There are many cooking classes in Sardinia that you should consider. Don’t know which one to pick? Don’t worry, I have tried a bunch of cooking classes in Sardinia and selected the best ones for you, as well as the best food tours, so rest assured, you will have a great experience.
This guide covers the best cooking classes in Sardinia and food tours in Sardinia, organized by base and dietary needs.
How this list is curated: I picked experiences that I have tried personally (some with my sister), and that are hands-on or tasting-led, not generic “dinner reservations.” Priority went to small groups, clear inclusions, strong recent reviews, and useful logistics. When something is a tasting (not a tour) I label it clearly, so you’re not surprised.

Cagliari: Vegan pasta making class
At a glance
- Location: Capitana (Cagliari surroundings)
- Duration: ~3–4 hours
- Type: Hands-on vegan pasta class + 3-course meal
- Group size: Small group
- Includes: Ingredients, apron, vegan dinner with non-alcoholic drinks, recipes
- Language: English
- Car needed: Yes — rural location best reached by car
- Dietary notes: 100% vegan
If healthy eating is your thing, you will definitely enjoy this pasta cooking class in Sardinia that takes place in Capitana, a local hidden gem near Cagliari.
My sister and I were particularly curious about this cooking class, as it is vegan (a bit rare in Sardinia, much like entirely vegan restaurants). We are not vegan, but I am lactose intolerant, so, of course, it caught my attention. This is one of the best cooking classes in Sardinia for (vegan) pasta lovers.

During the class, you will learn how to prepare several varieties of pasta – different in shape and color, thanks to the presence of various vegetables in the pasta dough. You will learn how to make malloreddus, culurgiones, and ravioli from scratch, which you will then get to eat accompanied by a delicious vegan sauce that chef Ovan, who runs the class, prepares.
Ovan’s cooking class is for very small groups only – my sister and I were the only guests when we attended. That’s because the host wants to follow you through the various steps of the preparation: make the dough, shape the pasta, fill and close the culurgiones, and cook them.
The whole experience, meal included, lasts about 3 hours, and you can choose to attend it in the morning and stay for lunch or do it in the evening and then have dinner.

Best for
- Vegan travelers visiting Cagliari or southern Sardinia (also great for non-vegan travelers)
- Anyone looking for a plant-based Sardinian cooking experience
- Couples or small groups wanting a countryside meal activity
- Foodies curious about adapting traditional pasta techniques to vegan cuisine
Why choose this one
Vegan cooking classes in Sardinia are rare. This workshop stands out because it offers a fully plant-based interpretation of regional dishes, in Capitana, a rural setting about 30 minutes drive from Cagliari. You’ll have to rent a car in Cagliari to get there.
If you follow a vegan diet — or are traveling with someone who does — this is one of the most suitable hands-on options in southern Sardinia. Incidentally, my sister and I took the class even though we are not vegan, and loved it.

Cagliari: Culurgiones Cooking Class (one of the top cooking classes in Sardinia)
At a glance
- Location: Quartu Sant’Elena (near Cagliari)
- Duration: ~2.5–3 hours
- Type: Hands-on pasta-making class
- Group size: Small group
- Includes: Ingredients, apron, meal & drinks, recipe
- Language: Italian & English
- Car needed: No — accessible via bus or taxi from Cagliari
- Dietary notes: Vegetarian-friendly (contains dairy)
If you want to test your cooking skills, this is one of the best cooking classes in Sardinia. You will learn to make culurgiones, one of the best-known traditional Sardinian dishes. The concept is similar to that of ravioli: a fresh pasta filled with other ingredients, but the shape and the taste are not even remotely similar. Indeed, their shape will remind you of a wheat spike.
They are originally from Ogliastra, a region in central Sardinia, but each village has its own recipe. Each family will inevitably tell you that theirs is the original recipe, and any other one is a bad imitation. (Hint: my favorites are from Seui).

This is a hands-on cooking class that takes place just outside Cagliari, in the neighboring city Quartu Sant’Elena, and as you have guessed, it is focused on mastering culurgiones.
You will work with fresh ingredients to make dough by hand, prepare the traditional potato filling with pecorino and mint, learn the spighitta braid that seals culurgiones, and finally sit to eat the pasta you have prepared.
The setting is casual and local. Ingredients, guidance, tasting, and a recipe to take home are included. The instructor can work in English on request.
Best for
- Travellers based in Cagliari or southern Sardinia
- Anyone wanting just a culurgiones class
- Foodies who prefer a shorter, focused workshop
- People without a car (easy public transport option) (though having a car makes it faster)
Why choose this one
This experience is ideal if you want a quick, hands-on lesson in making culurgiones without leaving the Cagliari metropolitan area. It’s especially convenient for afternoon or early evening slots and works well as a half-day activity after exploring the city or Poetto Beach.

Alghero: Sardinian Home-Cooking Class – one of the most complete cooking classes in Sardinia

- Group size: Small group
- Includes: Ingredients, apron, 4-course meal, drinks, recipes
- Language: Italian & English
- Car needed: Yes, it’s in the countryside of Alghero
- Dietary notes: Vegetarian options on request
If you find yourself in Alghero, in the northwest of Sardinia, you will have a great choice of things to do, which will include a visit to the historical center, a visit to the nearby natural sites such as Neptune’s Grotto, and to nearby small coastal towns like Bosa, a good dose of beaches, and much more.
Pasta lovers visiting Alghero will also enjoy this home-cooking class (one of the most fun cooking classes in Sardinia), during which you will learn how to prepare different kinds of fresh pasta, including malloreddus, culurgiones, and Sardinian-style ravioli.

In addition, the host will teach you how to make a good tomato sauce with simple ingredients. At the end of the workshop, you will taste the result of your work accompanied by charcuterie, cheeses, and a delicious glass of local wine.
Best for
- Travellers based in Alghero or north Sardinia
- People who want a complete Sardinian dinner experience
- Foodies curious about multiple local dishes in one class
- Couples or small groups who enjoy a communal meal
Why choose this one
This class goes beyond individual pasta techniques — it’s a full meal workshop. If you’re looking for a deep dive into Sardinian flavours and recipes within a social, relaxed setting, this is a standout pick, especially convenient if you’re staying in Alghero.

Olbia: Sardinian Pasta Workshop with Wine Tasting
At a glance
- Location: Olbia area (near the city)
- Duration: ~3–4 hours
- Type: Hands-on pasta class + wine tasting + shared meal
- Group size: Small group
- Includes: Ingredients, apron, local wine, meal & recipes
- Language: Italian & English
- Car needed: Recommended (rural venue)
- Dietary notes: Vegetarian options on request
Olbia, in the Gallura region of Sardinia close to the Emerald Coast, is home to one of the most important harbors in Italy, and for a good reason: it’s a place rich in history, traditions, attractions, and it’s Sardinia’s getaway to the internationally famous beaches of northeastern Sardinia.
If you want to do more than visit Olbia beaches and wish to learn more about the local culture and vibe, you will be glad to know that Olbia offers some of the best cooking classes in Sardinia.
This pasta workshop in Olbia starts with a welcome drink, but soon enough, you will start making pasta. You will learn how to mix semolina and water to create fregula and other kinds of pasta, such as ravioli.

You will then move to a nearby village to visit a wine cellar and discover the different stages of wine-making. After that, you will visit an exhibition of Sardinian gastronomic products and antique Sardinian working tools. The guide will help you understand the use of the various tools, and you will be able to appreciate life in Sardinia in the past.
The workshop ends with a delicious meal during which you will taste homemade bread, traditional Sardinian appetizers, the pasta you have previously prepared, and a dessert. You’ll drink the wine from the winery visited earlier and taste spirits that are typical of the area.
Best for
- Travellers based in Olbia / Emerald Coast
- Anyone who wants both cooking + wine tasting
- Food lovers interested in Sardinian pasta traditions
- Small groups or couples wanting a relaxed rural lunch
Why choose this one
This experience blends hands-on cooking with tasting, making it a good fit if you want more than a straight pasta workshop. The addition of local wines and a shared meal turns it into both a cooking class and a leisurely lunch or early afternoon event. Its location near Olbia makes it easy to combine with a day exploring the northeast coast. Transportation is not included, so I recommend renting a car in Olbia for this one.

- Car needed: No — easy to reach by city bus or on foot
- Dietary notes: Vegetarian-friendly (contains dairy)
This is a small-group cooking class in Cagliari where you learn to make two of Sardinia’s most iconic handmade pastas from scratch: culurgiones and lorighittas, a traditional pasta of Fordongianus (a pretty small town in the center of Sardinia).
Over about 3 hours, you’ll prepare fresh dough, make the traditional potato-mint-pecorino filling, and practice the signature braided closure (the spighitta) that makes culurgiones so distinctive. You’ll also shape lorighittas — the intricate ring-shaped pasta typical of Morgongiori and Fordongianus.
This is a great cooking class if you want to learn the technique; less ideal if you’re after a long social meal.

Best for
- Travellers staying in Cagliari without a car
- Anyone specifically wanting to learn culurgiones
- Food lovers who prefer a small, home-style setting over a commercial kitchen
- Couples or solo travellers looking for an interactive evening activity
Why choose this one
If your goal is to understand how Sardinian pasta is actually shaped — not just eat it — this is a strong pick. The focus is technique, tradition, and hands-on participation rather than a demo-style class. It’s especially convenient if you’re based in Cagliari city and don’t want to organise transport.

Over about 2–3 hours, you’ll learn to make seadas — the classic Sardinian dessert of semolina pastry filled with pecorino and drizzled with honey — from scratch.

Over about 3–4 hours, you’ll work with your host to make several courses — typically including starters, a pasta or main, and a dessert — and end by sharing the meal together with local wine or beverages.
This experience focuses on authentic home cooking rather than just a single dish, blending instruction with cultural stories and personal kitchen techniques. Ingredients, recipes, and all necessary equipment are provided.

Best Food Tours In Sardinia
Cagliari: Traditional Food Tour
At a glance
- Location: Cagliari (city center)
- Duration: ~3 hours
- Type: Guided city food tour + tastings
- Group size: Small group
- Includes: Tastings at multiple stops, guide, drinks
- Language: Italian & English
- Car needed: No — city walkable
- Dietary notes: Not vegetarian/vegan (meats & cheeses included; options vary)
Cagliari is the city where I grew up, and where I live. A great way to discover the city is through a food tour, during which you have the opportunity to walk around, explore some of the main attractions, and get lots of useful information, as well as taste local traditional products, too.
If you’re based in Cagliari without a car, this Cagliari traditional food tour is one of the easiest hands-on options—pair it with a San Benedetto Market morning for a full experience.
During the food tour, you will try at least 4 products among these options:
Pizzetta sfoglia – One of my favorite snacks in Sardinia. This is a light, crispy, and tasty pizza-like pastry made with phyllo pastry that you can eat as a snack on the go. We love it and it is a must at parties! You will find it in bars (that’s the Italian word for cafés), bakeries, and pastry shops. But you can find it only in Cagliari, nowhere else in Sardinia.

Sardinian traditional sweets – Sweets like Pardula and Amaretto are among the most famous in Sardinia. Pardule are star-shaped tartlets that consist of a simple dough filled with a ricotta mixture. Amaretti are pure almond paste sweets with a crispy crust and a very soft and moist interior. But there are many other sweets to be discovered.
Sardinian charcuterie and cheese – The most typical Sardinian foods are Pecorino Sardo cheese, local hams, and dried sausage. We usually eat them with pane carasau or pani guttiau (two kinds of Sardinian bread) while drinking a glass of our local red wine, Cannonau.
Sardinian pasta – Italy is famous all over the world for its pasta, and every Italian region has its own typical kinds of pasta. We have many in Sardinia – including Fregola, Malloreddus, Culurgiones – and they are all different and delicious.
Fried fish – Being an island, in Sardinia we are used to eating very fresh and tasty fish. Fried fish such as minnows, squid, and shrimp will satisfy your taste buds. Most locals will have fried fish with a drop of lemon, and the guide will recommend you do the same. My personal preference is not to put any, so as to savor the full flavor of the fish.
Coffee– Almost all our meals end with coffee, usually an espresso. Sitting in one of the historic cafés of Cagliari, sipping coffee while having a chat with a friend is part of our daily routine.
Best for
- Travelers staying in Cagliari
- First-timers who want a taste of Cagliari’s food culture
- People who prefer short experiences with multiple samples
- Visitors without a car who want a walkable tour with a full meal
Why choose this one
If you want a taste-centric introduction to Sardinian food without committing to a long sit-down meal or a cooking class, this walkable city tour delivers. It’s especially good early in your trip to orient your palate and give context before deeper experiences like hands-on pasta classes or farm visits.

The walking tour of Cagliari with food and wine tasting will take you through La Marina, one of the four historic districts of Cagliari. This is the harbor district, where workers, sailors, and merchants used to live and run their business.

Nowadays, it is still one of the busiest districts, where restaurants, churches, small stores and workshops stand. Located in the heart of Cagliari, you will admire the Bastione di Saint Remy, a spectacular and majestic building inaugurated in the early 20th century that remains one of the symbols of the city.

Think of it as the chance of seeing a side of the city that not many tourists ever visit.

Sardinian wines deserve way more international attention than they have received so far. Sardinia is home to a wide variety of native grapes, from the Nuragus to Cannonau to Vermentino. Whether you’re a fan of rich reds or delicate whites, you’re in for a real treat.
This is the reason why I suggest attending a wine tasting experience to learn more about our viticulture, production techniques, and the history of the local producers.
There are many wineries you can visit in Sardinia, but if you want to cut to the chase and just get to the tasting experience, I recommend the wine tasting experience at Binu Shop in Cagliari.

You will taste both white and red wines, and every wine will be paired with local artisanal delicacies such as homemade bread, different varieties of cheese, olives, extra virgin olive oil, charcuterie, and much more.
You will learn about the wine and the food you are tasting, and have the opportunity to buy what you like. The tasting is held in a nice enoteca located in a shopping mall just outside the center of Cagliari (the same one I mentioned for the beer tasting experience, in the neighborhood where I grew up).

- Wine lovers and gastronomy enthusiasts
- Travelers staying in Cagliari
- People who prefer seated tastings over walking tours
- Anyone keen to understand local pairings and producers
Why choose this one
This experience offers a balanced intro to Sardinian food culture with a wine-centric lens, ideal if you want to explore how regional wines complement local products like pecorino, bottarga, and cured meats. It’s a good option for an early evening activity after exploring the city.

Sardinian pecorino cheese is probably the most famous Sardinian product. There are many types of cheese you can try here, each with its own distinctive flavor and production method. Each cheese is not only just eaten on its own, but also accompanied by honey, compotes, jams, and fruits, and used to create incredible dishes and even desserts.
If you love cheese and nature, you cannot miss this cheese-making and tasting tour in Siliqua, a small town not too far from Cagliari. You will be taken to a working farm where you will be shown the cheese-making process and how milk can become cheese.

The farmer will explain, while preparing it, how to make ricotta. You will learn about the differences between Sardinian Pecorino and Pecorino Romano.
At the end of the tour, you will have a meal (lunch or dinner). You will taste homemade bread, different types of cheese and meats, a pasta dish, and a dessert. Pasta is made with the local durum wheat semolina from wheat that grows here, and the wine comes from the grapes of the vineyard.
This tour is a real taste of local culture.

FAQs on Cooking Classes In Sardinia
Yes. You’ll find several cooking classes in Sardinia that don’t require a car, especially in Cagliari. City-based pasta workshops and home cooking classes are reachable on foot, by bus, or by a short taxi ride. In Cagliari, options near San Benedetto and Quartu Sant’Elena are particularly convenient. Rural farmhouse classes, however, almost always require a car.
Yes — there are cooking classes near Villasimius, including hands-on pasta workshops focused on local dishes like culurgiones. These are great if you’re staying in the southeast and want a shorter, practical class without traveling north to Cagliari. I particularly recommend this culurgiones class in Villassimius.
This cooking class in Capitana, about 30 minutes from Cagliari, is 100% vegan and has a strong focus on healthy eating.
Many cooking classes in Sardinia focus on culurgiones, the island’s iconic stuffed pasta. You’ll find culurgiones workshops in Cagliari, Villasimius, Olbia, and even in Dorgali.
Yes — many Sardinian cooking classes can accommodate dietary restrictions, but it varies by host. There is a vegan cooking class in Cagliari. However, gluten-free and lactose-free options need advance notice, as traditional Sardinian pasta uses wheat and cheese. Always contact the provider before booking to confirm if it is possible, and ask about substitutions for dairy, gluten, or other allergies.
A food tour usually involves walking between multiple stops (markets, bakeries, wine bars) with a guide, tasting small portions along the way, and learning about local history and ingredients.
A tasting is typically seated in one venue (wine bar, farm, brewery), focusing in depth on specific products like wine, cheese, olive oil, or beer — with guided explanations but no city walking component.
Yes — in July and August, many cooking classes and food tours in Sardinia fill up weeks in advance, especially the hands-on pasta workshops and farmhouse experiences near popular beach towns. If you have specific dates or group size, book early (4–8+ weeks) to secure slots, particularly for weekend sessions and vegan or small-group classes.

Final Considerations
Food is part of every culture, and just as you go visit a museum or admire a landscape, tasting local products, learning about recipes, and getting close to locals is part of the journey itself. That’s why you should consider joining a food tour or doing a cooking class in Sardinia: it’s one of the best experiences you can have here.
You see, food in Italy is very regional. This means that what you’ll eat in Sardinia can’t really be found in the rest of the country. Sardinian food is unique and delicious.
Despite being an island, most of the traditional food in Sardinia is based on meat products – with a strong focus on pork and lamb dishes, and some of the best pecorino cheese you’ll ever taste. Sheep farming was the most practiced activity by our ancestors.
But our ancestors also sailed the seas, and fish is an important ingredient in our diet.
During Nuragic times, fish was roasted, boiled in seawater, and fried in olive or lentisco oil. Under Roman control, fish was floured in semolina, fried, and marinated in vinegar. The recipes of burrida and scabecciu – two traditional dishes from Cagliari – have remained as they were since then.
Through cooking classes in Sardinia, food tours, and tastings, you can get closer to our culture and local people. Traditional recipes can only be explained by locals who know them and can add interesting information and anecdotes.
