Best Villasimius Hotels: Where To Stay In Villasimius, Sardinia

This post may contain affiliate links. Further info in my disclosure.

If you are planning a trip to the south of Sardinia, Villasimius is one of the best places to base yourself. Located at the southeastern tip of the island, at the edge of the Gulf of Cagliari, it is known for its beautiful beaches, clear water, and relaxed atmosphere — and there are many excellent Villasimius hotels to choose from.

I know Villasimius extremely well. I have been spending time there since I was a baby, and over the years I have stayed in the area countless times, explored its beaches in every season, and watched it evolve from a quiet seaside town into one of the most popular beach destinations in Sardinia.

Most visitors come for the sea, and rightly so. Villasimius is home to some of the best beaches in Sardinia, including Porto Giunco, Punta Molentis, Campulongu, and Cala Caterina.

But there is more to the area than beaches alone. You can visit archaeological sites dating back to the pre-Nuragic civilization, explore ancient nuraghe, and see traces of the Phoenician and Roman presence on the island.

If you are wondering where to stay in Villasimius, this guide will help you choose the right option for your travel style, budget, and expectations.

Some hotels are better for beach access, others work well for families, couples, or travelers who prefer to stay close to restaurants and shops. I have selected the best Villasimius hotels based on location, atmosphere, facilities, and overall experience.

My post, A Useful Guide To Villasimius, is a great resource to plan your visit, with ideas on beaches, places to visit, activities, restaurants, and much more.

Things To Know Before Booking A Hotel In Villasimius

Before booking your hotel in Villasimius, there are a few practical things worth knowing. Villasimius is not particularly large, but different areas offer very different experiences, and choosing the right location can honestly make or break your trip.

Villasimius is much easier with a car

Unless you are planning to stay in Villasimius town for your entire trip, I strongly recommend renting a car at Cagliari Airport as soon as you land. You will need it to reach Villasimius (though there are public buses that go there) and move around once there.

Indeed, while the town center itself is compact and easy to walk around, the beaches are spread out along the coastline, and public transportation to the beaches is limited, especially outside the peak summer season.

Having a car will make it much easier to visit different beaches, go out for dinner in the evening, and reach hotels located outside the center. It also gives you more flexibility if you want to explore nearby protected beaches such as Punta Molentis, Porto Sa Ruxi, Cala Pira or Cala Sinzias in the Costa Rei area.

Beachfront hotels are not always within walking distance of restaurants

One thing many visitors underestimate is how isolated some beach hotels in Villasimius actually are. Staying near the sea sounds wonderful — and often is — but several resorts are located away from restaurants, shops, and evening activities.

Unless you plan to eat at the hotel restaurant every night, you will usually need to drive to reach restaurants or bars comfortably. This is especially true for areas such as Cala Caterina, Campulongu, and parts of Notteri.

Villasimius town is the most practical area to stay

If convenience matters more to you than being directly by the beach, Villasimius town is usually the best choice. Staying in town means you can easily walk to restaurants, bars, supermarkets, pharmacies, and shops without having to drive every evening.

This is also the best option if you are not renting a car, visiting outside the summer peak season, or simply prefer a more relaxed and practical setup.

Beach areas are more scenic and relaxed

If your priority is waking up close to the sea and spending most of your time at the beach, areas such as Porto Giunco, Simius, Campulongu, Notteri, and Cala Caterina are excellent choices.

These areas tend to feel quieter and more exclusive than the town center, especially in the evenings. However, the tradeoff is that services are usually more limited, and driving often becomes necessary.

July and August are extremely busy

Villasimius is one of the most popular summer destinations in Sardinia, and hotels can sell out surprisingly early during peak season. This is especially true for beachfront resorts, family hotels, and properties with pools.

If you are planning to visit in July or August, I strongly recommend booking several months in advance. Prices also increase significantly during this period, particularly in August, when many Italians travel for their summer holidays.

Hotels “near Villasimius” may still require a drive

When browsing hotels, pay close attention to the exact location rather than just the description. Some properties described as being “near Villasimius” may actually be located several kilometers outside town or in quieter coastal areas.

This is not necessarily a bad thing — in fact, some of the nicest resorts are outside the center — but it is important to understand what kind of experience you are booking. If being able to walk to restaurants, bars, and shops matters to you, staying in or very close to Villasimius town is usually the safest choice.

The Best Villasimius Hotels

Cala Caterina Hotel – one of the best Villasimius hotels

My local take: I know Cala Caterina particularly well because I have spent time there since I was a child and have stayed in the area many times over the years. It is one of the best hotels in Villasimius if you want a quieter and more refined atmosphere away from the busiest parts of town. However, I would not personally stay there without a car, because restaurants and evening options nearby are limited.

  • Best for couples and quieter upscale stays
  • Ideal if you want a more refined atmosphere away from the busiest parts of Villasimius
  • I would strongly recommend having a car here
  • Cala Caterina beach nearby is small, scenic, and usually calmer than Simius

This is easily my favorite hotel in Villasimius, but one of the most expensive ones. You can’t beat the location! You will find Hotel Cala Caterina right by the lovely Cala Caterina beach, and a short distance from Porto Giunco Beach and Cava Usai Beach.

At Cala Caterina Hotel, you can relax and take a break from everyday life. Rooms are very spacious, nicely decorated with details that recall Sardinian arts and traditions.

You can pick a room with views of the sea, and there are even family rooms in case you are traveling with your children, making this one of the most family-friendly resorts in Sardinia.

If you don’t want to go to the beach, you can hang out by the pool or relax in the beautiful green garden. Then, during the evening, you can enjoy the views from the big terrace at the hotel.

The hotel also has a spa and a restaurant where you can try Sardinian specialties, and a bar with live shows and live music.

You can also ask for the airport shuttle, in case you don’t wish to drive in Sardinia.

Suimi’s Hotel

  • Best for travelers looking for a stylish, modern stay
  • Good compromise between beaches and town access
  • The pool area is one of the highlights of the property
  • Works well for couples who prefer a smaller hotel atmosphere

This is one of the top-reviewed hotels in Villasimius, and a good mid-range option. It’s an easy 10-minute walk from Simius beach and near the town center. It is also less than 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from other beautiful beaches of Villasimius, such as Porto Giunco, Campolongu, Is Traias, and Porto Luna.

The hotel features a beautiful garden and a pool. Rooms are modern, spacious, and comfortable – some also come with a balcony, though keep in mind this is not a beachfront hotel, so you won’t have views of the sea.

There are even golf courts near the hotel, and the hotel staff can help you plan boat tours, horse riding excursions, and snorkeling expeditions.

I Graniti Hotel

  • Best for travelers who want to stay in Villasimius town
  • Convenient base for restaurants and evening strolls
  • Better suited to travelers prioritizing practicality over resort facilities
  • Good option if you are trying to keep costs under control in the summer

This hotel is close to the main square of Villasimius, and less than 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from Porto Giunco beach, as well as Porto Luna and Campolongu beach.

The only downside of being located in the town center is that, in case you are renting a car in Cagliari and driving here, there’s no parking on the premises, and you will have to park your car in one of the streets nearby. Usually, that is never an issue.

It’s also one of the most budget-friendly places in Villasimius, perfect if you are visiting Sardinia on a smaller budget – though if you want a good deal, you need to book well in advance and avoid the peak July and August months.

To easily access the many beaches in Villasimius, you can count on a local public bus that connects the town center to the main beaches in the area. And since you are in the center, you can walk to restaurants and bars in the evening.

There are family rooms as well as rooms for visitors with disabilities. Some rooms even have a balcony, and solo travelers will be glad to find single rooms available too.

Rooms are decorated in a very classic style. They are not very spacious, but they have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Even the most basic option will have views of the garden, at the center of which there is a nice pool to hang out during the day or in the evening.

Other rooms face the sea, in case you want great views!

If you have a car, you’ll appreciate the onsite parking. Otherwise, the hotel staff will be happy to arrange an airport shuttle for you.

It is a bit of a way from the center of town, but on the other hand, this location allows you to completely unwind from the stress of daily life.

Rooms are spacious – each of them is different from the other, and some have fantastic views of the sea. There is even a massive suite that is perfect for a family or a group of friends, as it has two bathrooms.

The hotel features a private beach and an outdoor pool, and there are other beaches near the hotel, such as Spiaggia del Riso, Spiaggia della Fortezza, and Porto Giunco.

There’s a nice restaurant overlooking the sea that offers great Sardinian staples. At night, there are live shows and sports events on streaming. You could ask the staff to help you arrange activities, such as horse riding, boat tours, snorkeling, hiking, and windsurfing.

FAQs About Villasimius Hotels

When is the best time to stay in Villasimius?

The best time to visit Villasimius is between late spring (May) and early October, when most hotels, beach clubs, restaurants, and tourist services are fully operational. July and August are the busiest and hottest months, while June and September usually offer the best balance of good weather, warm sea temperatures, and fewer crowds.

When should you book hotels in Villasimius?

If you are traveling in July or August, I recommend booking hotels several months in advance because the best properties sell out quickly. However, there is usually no point trying to book 18 months ahead, as many hotels in Villasimius only open reservations around November or December for the following summer season.

What is the best area to stay in Villasimius without a car?

Villasimius town is usually the best choice if you are not renting a car. Staying in town gives you easier access to restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and other services, whereas many beach resorts outside the center require driving, especially in the evening.

Are Villasimius beach hotels worth it?

Yes, especially if your priority is spending most of your time by the sea. Hotels near Porto Giunco, Simius, Campulongu, and Cala Caterina offer easier beach access and a quieter atmosphere. Just keep in mind that several beach hotels are located away from restaurants and evening activities.

How many days should you stay in Villasimius?

I usually recommend spending at least four or five days in Villasimius. This gives you enough time to enjoy different beaches, take a boat trip, visit nearby areas, and actually relax instead of constantly moving around.

Is Villasimius expensive?

Villasimius is generally one of the most expensive beach destinations in Sardinia, especially during July and August. Beachfront hotels and luxury resorts can become very expensive in the peak season, but there are also smaller hotels, guesthouses, and B&Bs that offer better value outside the busiest summer weeks.

Are Villasimius hotels open year-round?

They are not. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, and beach clubs in Villasimius operate seasonally and typically open between spring and early autumn. Outside the tourist season, the town becomes much quieter, and accommodation options are more limited.

Final Considerations

As you can see, there are many fantastic places to stay in Villasimius. Here you will find some of the best boutique hotels in Sardinia, as well as nice villas for rent and small holiday rentals.

My recommendation, in case you decide to base yourself in Villasimius, is to book your stay well in advance, between 6 and 8 months before your stay. This is especially important if you are traveling to Sardinia in August, which is the peak of the peak holiday season here in Italy.

If you have stayed at a fabulous Villasimius hotel, let me know in the comments below.
